# Legal AI free trial: seven days on a real matter, with an email address and no card

*Alejandro Cárdenas · October 31, 2026*

RuleX gives lawyers three ways to start free. The seven-day trial begins with an email address and no card, and it opens the full workspace: up to twenty files per message, research with citations that open, the Drafter with Word export, matters, e-signature and hearing transcription. The twelve PDF tools run in your browser and are free inside every plan. RuleX Academy offers a free certification in AI for lawyers: seven modules, a 30-question exam and a verifiable certificate. After the trial, plans start at $29.90 a month in the United States.

A free trial is worth the week only if you spend it on work you owe a client. This page lists what the RuleX trial opens, the free tools that sit beside it, the certification you can earn at no cost, and a checklist for testing any legal AI on one real matter in a single afternoon.

## Start with the RuleX trial: it runs your own matter from the first upload to the Word draft.

The week gives you the research, the drafting, the signature and the transcription on a file you already know. The PDF tools and Academy cost nothing beside it. When the seven days end you have a Word document you drafted, a chronology of your matter and a measured sense of the hours that came back, and a plan costs from $29.90 a month.

## An afternoon checklist: test any legal AI on one real matter

Use the same six steps on every product you are considering. The result is a comparison made of your own work, which a vendor demo cannot give you.

1. **Pick a matter you know cold.** Choose an active file where you already know the answers: eight to twenty documents, at least one scanned. You will judge the tool against what you know to be true.
2. **Load the whole file at once.** Upload everything together, including the scan and an email export. In RuleX that is up to twenty files in one message, read in parallel, with scans read page by page through OCR.
3. **Ask a question whose answer you hold.** Request a chronology or the answer to a point you already settled. Compare dates, names and amounts with your own notes and see where each statement was taken from.
4. **Open every citation.** Click each source. A citation that opens to the original passage can be signed; a citation that points nowhere gets discarded. RuleX links each source from the answer.
5. **Draft the document you owe this week.** Ask for the memo, the letter or the motion you have to deliver. Judge it by the edits it needs: in RuleX the Drafter asks up to three questions with selectable answers, writes in the Canvas beside the file, and exports to Word.
6. **Count a deadline and write down the hours.** Run the Deadline calculator on a real date, then compare your clock for the same tasks. The decision rests on hours returned, not on how the interface feels.

## An employment lawyer tests RuleX on a wrongful-termination file

Illustration. A lawyer opens a trial account and uploads fourteen files from a live wrongful-termination matter: the offer letter, the handbook in Word, three scanned warning notices, an email export and a recorded interview with the client. She asks for a chronology that names the source document of each date, checks two dates she already knows, opens each citation, and drafts the opposition brief in the Canvas. She sends the engagement letter to e-signature and runs the deadline for the response.

- A chronology that names the source document of each date, including the three scanned notices.
- A transcript of the recorded interview with Speaker A and Speaker B separated, which the assistant reads as one more document of the file.
- The brief drafted in the Canvas with each authority linked, and exported to Word with every authority identified by court, number and year.
- The engagement letter sent to e-signature with a six-digit code and a sealed certificate.
- A deadline counted with the holidays of her jurisdiction and saved to the calendar.

## What the seven-day trial opens

The trial starts with an email address. There is no card form, and nothing renews when the seven days end. The workspace opens whole: the assistant with citations that open, the Drafter and its Canvas, matters with tasks and dates, Projects and Apps, e-signature, hearing transcription and the Deadline calculator.

Files can be PDF, Word, Excel, images, audio and video. A message takes up to twenty files; when the file is long, RuleX reads each document separately so that detail is not lost. During the trial the per-plan daily allowances for signing, transcription and In depth answers are lifted, and a single daily usage allowance covers the whole workspace.

Choose any of the three answer modes, Direct, Balanced or In depth, and compare them on the same question. Balanced is the default.

## Twelve PDF tools that keep the file on your computer

Merge PDF, Split PDF, Remove pages, Extract pages, Organize PDF, Compress PDF, Image to PDF, PDF to image, Rotate PDF, Add page numbers, Watermark and Crop PDF. All twelve run inside your browser, so the file stays on your device, takes no tokens from your allowance and carries no daily limit. Each handles files up to 250 MB. They are free inside every plan, the trial included, and they follow the language of your account.

A closing-binder day is the natural use: merge forty exhibits, number the pages, add a watermark, compress the result for an e-filing portal and send it.

## A free certification in AI for lawyers

RuleX Academy is free. It teaches seven modules of 20 to 25 minutes each: language-model fundamentals applied to law, hallucinations and source verification, confidentiality and legal data, AI-assisted legal research, legal drafting, working with case files and professional best practice. A 30-question exam closes the course, and passing it issues a certificate with a public identifier.

Anyone can open the certificate at rulex.org and check it, and it can be shared on LinkedIn. Employers and clients see a credential that names the method: cite, verify, protect the file, deliver something a lawyer can sign.

## What happens when the trial ends

Your matters, conversations and documents stay in the account. You choose a plan and continue where you stopped. In the United States, Student is $29.90 a month, Standard $39.90 and Ultra $69.90; the other nineteen markets have their own published prices, listed on the pricing page.

Six months cost five monthly payments and a year costs nine. The monthly plan cancels from your account.

## What you walk away with after the week

- A chronology of your own matter, with the source document named for each date
- A research answer whose citations you opened
- A draft in Word that you edited and judged
- A document sent to e-signature and a recording transcribed
- Your own measure of hours returned
- A verifiable certificate in AI for lawyers, if you take the course
